Historic & Custom Mouldings

Historic & Custom Moulding Patterns fabricated by Tague Lumber

Our Custom Millwork Division fabricates historic moulding profiles and custom trim patterns that meet exact project specifications.

Many historic homes and commercial buildings feature moulding styles that are no longer manufactured. When a 100 year-old original trim profile must be replicated, we match it with precision and attention to historical detail.

We maintain an archive of more than 2,000 knife profiles in our moulding library. If none of those knives match your required pattern, we will grind a custom knife to reproduce the moulding exactly as needed.

Local Availability & Specification Matching

Architects sometimes specify custom moulding profiles that are unavailable locally. Rather than sourcing specialty trim from distant suppliers, we can fabricate the required architectural moulding patterns in-house.

In many cases, custom production reduces lead time and can be more cost-effective than shipping specialty materials.

Design Flexibility & Unique Applications

Some projects require entirely original trim concepts. Our team creates custom moulding profiles that deliver distinctive architectural character.

Historic & Custom Moulding Patterns are also ideal for:

  • High-end residential construction
  • Commercial interiors
  • Restoration projects
  • Custom millwork integration

Additionally, we fabricate mouldings for curved and radius applications, including crown, base, chair rail, jambs, and window surrounds to fit convex or concave surfaces. For more information, visit our Curved & Radius Mouldings and Jambs page.

Material Options for Custom Trim

While stock moulding is typically produced in pine, fir, or oak, we fabricate custom wood moulding patterns in a wide range of species, including:

  • Spanish cedar
  • Poplar
  • Sapele mahogany
  • Red oak
  • White oak
  • Birch
  • Cherry
  • Maple
  • Walnut
  • Black locust
  • We also produce paint-grade MDF profiles and moisture-resistant PVC (Kleer) mouldings.

3-D Printed Moulding Samples

For projects that require approval prior to production, we offer full-scale 3-D printed moulding samples (approximately 4 inches in length). These samples provide an accurate representation of the profile before full fabrication begins. Typical turnaround time is approximately one week.
